  3. Encouraging Examplesof Godly Character • JOB – “…He was blameless, a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil.” Job 1:1 • ABRAHAM – “(He) believed God, so God declared him to be righteous.” Rom. 4:3 • JOSEPH – “He is a man who is obviously filled with the Spirit of God.” Gen. 41:38

AREAS of the OUTWARDWALK • Godly in FINANCES • Believe and communicate that all wealth and possessions come from and belong to God. • Project a generous spirit. • Model a life of faith. • Trust God when financial needs arise and lead the church to do so out of your personal experience and convictions.

AREAS of the OUTWARDWALK • GODLY in FAMILY LIFE • Prioritize your family above church. • Accept your wife as a gift from God and love her with all your heart. • Elevate your wife in the eyes of the kids. • Lead your family to love the Lord and to serve others. • Establish and maintain traditions. • Model godly family life for the men.

  14. AREAS of the OUTWARDWALK • Godly in EVERY DAY LIFE • Express thankfulness. • Be an active witness. • Be sensitive and kind to waitresses, clerks, and all who serve the public. • Find ways to connect with, relate to, and serve your neighbors.

  15. Your Example ofGodly Character THE INWARD LIFE “God is not primarily concerned with you being HAPPY. He is, however vitally concerned with you being HOLY! The paradox is that when you’re HOLY, then you’re HAPPY!”

  16. AREAS of the INWARD LIFE • Holiness in the DEVOTIONAL LIFE • A specific time • A special place • Time in the Word • Time in prayer • Time in praise • Keep a journal • Don’t get discouraged

AREAS of the INWARD LIFE • Holiness in the THOUGHT LIFE • Monitor your TV programs. • Never view movies rated “R” or worse. • Never surf the net inappropriately. • When talking with women, look at their faces. • Counsel women wisely—include your wife. • Saturate your mind with the Word. Phil.4:8 • Seek out an accountability partner. • Filter the advise of other Christians (WWJD).

  18. AREAS of the INWARD LIFE • Holiness in the STUDY LIFE. • Set a study routine and stick to it. • Know the needs of the people. • Fill your heart with the Word. • Pray over every facet of study. • Do good research and exegesis. • Preach with excitement out of the “overflow.”

  19. AREAS of the INWARD LIFE The secret to it all is found in Eph. 5:18! “Be filled with the Spirit”

  20. The Fullness of the Spirit is a… • COMMANDto be • CONTROLLED • CONTINUALLY.

  21. Apart from the control of the Holy Spirit over. . . the INWARD LIFE and OUTWARD WALK, you will never develop the GODLY CHARACTER necessary to be an effective CHURCH PLANTER.
