  3. Keywordsearchof title index finds records with the search word or words in any of the fields included in the Title Index

  4. The title index includes the 130, 210, 245, 246, 247, 440, 505, 586, 730, 740 fields

  5. Keyword search when no matching title is found

  6. Browse search displays the selected browse index opening one entry above the entered search term

  7. Use Previous and Next buttons to scroll through the browse index

  8. Exactsearchfinds title with only the search word(s)

  9. Exact search looks at each indexed titlenot just the 245 field title

  10. Exact search will not match title in 505 field

  11. Exact search displays Browse index whenno matching title is found

  12. To locate titles from the 505 tag do a Keyword search

  18. For keyword search for title with AND, NOT, OR use quotes: “bud not buddy” Or omit operator term: bud buddy

  19. EXACT searches for exact string entered

  20. Keyword search looks for search terms in same field

  21. Use Boolean operator ANDto search for terms in different fields

  22. Use Boolean operator AND to search for terms in different fields

  23. Use Boolean operator OR to combine terms

  24. Keyword search of all fields finds many false hits.

  25. Subject term: Bears--Folklore

  26. Subject term: Teddy bears--Poetry

  27. Corporate subject: Chicago Bears (Football team)--History

  28. Boolean searching is an essential information literacy skill. The school library catalog is the perfect place to introduce this skill
