  2. Objective • The purpose of the TCS is to engage the students in learning by allowing them to apply the knowledge that they have gained to a real life example.

  4. General Information/History • Location: The WSD is located in Northwest Phoenix and parts of Glendale, AZ • Square Miles: 44 • Number of schools: 32 • Student enrollment: 24,696 • Average daily membership: 23,521

  6. Budget • Total District budget: $96,309,394 • Maintenance and Operation: $91,114,284 • Capital: $5,195,110 • Per capita spending: $4,094 • Primary tax rate: $2.67 • Secondary tax rate: $2.14

  7. Bond Information • In May of 1996, the patrons of the WSD voted in favor of a $114.7 million bond. The monies were allocated in the following five areas: • New construction - $62,336,000 • Technology - $30,884,755 • Renovations - $18,859,073 • Transportation - $3,258,931 • Site acquisition - $2,000,000

  8. General Requirements • The school district is in the process of implementing a enterprise wide network which will include Local Area Networks (LANs) at each site and a Wide Area Network (WAN) to provide data connectivity between all school sites.

  9. General Requirements • Access to the "Internet" from any site in the school district is also an integral part of this implementation. • Once the network is in place, the school district will implement a series of servers to facilitate online automation of all of the district’s administrative and many of the curricular functions.

  10. General Requirements • Since this network implementation will have to continue to be functional for a minimum of 7-10 years, all design considerations should include 1000% growth in the LAN's and 100% growth in the WAN.

  11. General Requirements • The minimum requirement for initial implementation design will be 10 Megabits per second to any host computer in the network and 100 Megabits per second to any server host in the network. • Only two OSI layer 3&4 protocols will be allowed to be implemented in this network, they are TCP/IP and Novell's IPX.
