  2. The following sedimentary rockswere the samples we used in lab this year. Please review the rocks on the following slides and try to identify them based on the clues provided. The answers are located at the end of the PowerPoint.

  3. Sample 1 Fine-grained, clastic sedimentary rock that is red in color with a sandy feel.

  4. Sample 2 Fine-grained, bioclastic sedimentary rock that fizzes withHCl. This rock contains cemented shell fragments.

  5. Sample 3 Fine-grained, bioclastic sedimentary rock that contains the microscopic remains of plants and animals.

  6. Sample 4 Fine-grained, clastic sedimentary rock that can be easily scratched by your fingernail. The mineral composition of this rock is microscopic.

  7. Sample 5 Fine-grained, clastic sedimentary rock that contains rounded, cemented clasts. In a calcium carbonate matrix.

  8. Sample 6 Fine-grained, clastic sedimentary rock that fizzes with HCl. This rock was used to construct the Egyptian Pyramids.

  9. Sample 7 Crystalline/Chemical sedimentary rock that is placed on roads and driveways to melt ice.
