  2. Who discovered Foraminifera? • Foraminifera was discovered by A. D’Orbigny in 1826. • It was discovered on deep ocean floors in the Precambrian times.

  3. Disease caused by Foraminifera • Amoebiasis and other infections are caused by Foraminifera. • Amoebiasis can give people painful ulcers in their intestines.

  4. Cures for diseases caused by Foraminifera • To prevent and stop getting diseases from Foraminifera you can.. • Thoroughly cook all raw foods. • Thoroughly wash raw vegetables and fruits before eating.

  5. Case History • Foraminifera’s first “mention” was in Herodotus (fifth century B.C.) who discovered that the limestone of the Egyptian pyramids contained the large benthic foraminifer Nummulites. Foraminifera was recognized as protozoa in 1835 by Dujardin and shortly afterwards D’Orbingy produced the first classification. The 1872 HMS Challenger cruiser found so many samples that scientists continued to work on the material well into the 1880’s. Work on foraminifera continued into the twentieth century and is still developing today.
