  4. The Autism Forum • Meets monthly in York • Multi-agency • A professionals discussion forum • Uses ICD 10 criteria and information gathered from several sources to decide on diagnosis • Options include review by the forum at a later date

  5. “Triad of Impairment” • 1) Social interaction • 2) imagination and communication • 3) Repetitive behaviour / routines

  6. Social interaction • eye contact / facial expressions • peer relationships • Understanding emotions • Showing and sharing interest

  7. Imagination and communication • language delay (without gesture compensation) • Conversation skills • Repetitive language • Pretend play

  9. What are the outcomes? • 1) No diagnosis made (about 50%) • 2) Autism • 3) Atypical Autism • 4) Aspergers syndrome • 5) No diagnosis currently – for review
