  1. GBK Geometry Jordan Johnson

  2. Today’s plan • Greeting • Review Asg #61: From Chapter 9, Lesson 4 (p. 364): • Set II Exercises 50-53. • Bonus: Set III. • Pythagorean Theorem: Finish / Present Proofs • Alternative Proof (Garfield) • Homework / Questions • Clean-up

  3. The Pythagorean Theorem • Strategy: • Construct a square of side length a + b, by making four copies of ABC. Find its area. • Prove that the hypotenuses form a (smaller) square. • Use the Area Postulate to getthe big square’s area in termsof a, b, and c. • Set the two area formulas equal. • Use algebra to get a2 + b2 = c2.

  4. Homework: Test Review • Review for Unit 9 (Area) Test: • Base and corresponding altitude • Recognize for triangles, trapezoids, and parallelograms • Area formulas • Rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids • Be able to choose and use • Area proofs • Order: Rectangles, right triangles, all triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids. • One proof problem on the test

  5. Clean-up / Reminders • Pick up all trash / items. • Push in chairs (at front and back tables). • See you tomorrow!
