May is…. • Get Caught Reading Month! • Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Get Caught Reading is a nationwide public service campaign launched by the Association of American Publishers to remind people of all ages how much fun it is to read. May is officially Get Caught Reading month, but the celebration lasts throughout the year.

  5. May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month-join us in celebrating physical activity and sport during our favorite month of the year! The Month of May Celebrates..

  12. Make sure you regularly check the Scholarship Bulletin Board in Hallway “A,” as the Counseling Office updates it with new information. Some scholarships may still be mentioned in the daily bulletin, but information on most will be made available on the Bulletin Board. Student Announcements

  13. A scholarship opportunity is available for any male student interested in attending the University of Memphis this fall. It’s called the Balanced Man Scholarship and is being offered by one of the Fraternity’s on their campus. Anyone interested in applying for this scholarship opportunity please visit the Counseling Office for an application. Applications must be received by the University of Memphis by May 15th, 2009.

  15. The Counseling Office has received a scholarship opportunity from ETSU (East Tennessee State University) for any male student planning to attend this fall. It’s called “Balanced Man Scholarship” and is sponsored by one of their fraternities. Interested seniors should visit the Counseling Office for additional information and an application. Deadline is May 30th.

  16. Furman University is hosting a Summer Scholars Program this summer and is now accepting applications from interested students. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain college credit as well as learn about College Life at Furman. Deadline is June 13, 2009. More information can be found in the Counseling Office.

  17. The Tennessee Economic Council on Women will offer six $1000 scholarships, two from each Grand Division of the state, in October at the Tennessee Women's Summit.  Three of the Scholarships will be for 2010 high school seniors and three will be given to women who are re-entering college.  The guidelines and applications will be online by June, 2009 at www.tnwomensummit.org.  Application deadline will be September 14, 2009.  Questions should be addressed to tecscholarship@comcast.net.

  18. All seniors planning to go to College after High School, please remember to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) ASAP to be considered for the Hope (Lottery) Scholarship and other potential grants & scholarships. www.fafsa.ed.gov Additional information can be obtained from the Counseling Office.

  19. The Counseling Office has information for any sophomores, juniors or seniors interested in Accounting and/or being a CPA to attend TSCPA’s (Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants) 8th annual Accounting Academy at Belmont University in Nashville. This program will be held this summer at no cost to the participants. Specific requirements for this opportunity are available in the Counseling Office.

  20. Attention sophomores and juniors! The Counseling Office has just received information on Summer College for HighSchool Students at The University of Mississippi. There are minimum requirements for acceptance and a cost is involved. Upon completion of the program, college credit can be awarded. If you are interested, please see the Counseling Office for details. Student Announcements

  21. Student Edge Scholarship The Scholarship contest is in full swing. Log onto mystudentedge.com. $1,000 scholarships will be given away.

  22. Seniors, if you need a reference for your college application, please submit a resume outlining what you have done your last four years both in and out of the classroom.  Include what sports, activities, outside interests, leadership rolls, etc.  Please allow 2 weeks for your reference to be processed after we received this information.   26. There will be a mandatory meeting during activity period Tuesday, 5/19 in Coach Wilkerson’s room for anyone interested in swim team next year.

  27. The Media Center is closed for inventory.  Please return all materials and clear fines ASAP.

  28. The Cheerleaders are selling Krispy Kreme donuts for $6.25. They will be delivered on Thursday May 21st. • Please see Mrs. Garland or a cheerleader to order.

  30. English 1 end of course test is Monday. U.S. History end of course test is Tuesday.

  31. Students interested in a driver’s education class this summer need to give their name and phone number to Mrs. Jensen. This class offering is not yet definite but if approved, it will run shortly after schools end and cost will be approximately $50. We are surveying student need at this time and seats are limited. Students must have a permit to attend this class. If you are interested, please see Mrs. Jensen as soon as possible.

Junior and Senior males: Did you know that Section 3 of the Military Selective Service Act requires all male citizens between ages 18 and 25 must register with Selective Service within 30 days before or after their 18th birthday. Our registrar, Mrs. Jensen is available to help you register online. Student Announcements

  34. Seniors need to pick up a transcript request form from the guidance office and let them know which college to send your FINAL transcripts. Please mark FINAL on the top of your request.

  35. At least 100 more photos are needed for this year’s senior video. These may be candid shots of you and friends, sporting events, etc. Pictures may be emailed to Viavideo3@aol.com or brought to Mrs. Barnett in the main office.
