  1. Bigbite fringe fields and gradients with a larger field clamp J.P Chen get the credit for presenting this and P. Brindza gets the blame for the results!

  2. 3D Tosca model with larger clamp and coils and pivot steel

  3. Bigbite with a larger clamp • Extend field clamp by 12 inches on beam away side • Beam side clamp is already notched around beam and cannot be extended • Examine fields and gradients at target center for benefit • Integral fields for best accuracy • Fields and some gradients are reduced • Gradients do not match measurements

  4. Fields(gauss) and gradients(milligauss/cm) near target center with larger clamp • Bx(000) -1.0084 was -1.8253 • By(000) -0.7666 was -1.0947 • Bz(000) +0.1915 was +0.2128 • Note accuracy is ~1 gauss • dBx/dX 6.0 mg/cm was 12.0 mg/cm • dBy/dY 2.0 mg/cm was 2.0 mg/cm • dBz/dZ 3.2 mg/cm was 2.5 mg/cm • Gradients from -20 to +20 cm target length

  5. Small clamp gradient in Bx

  6. Gradient in By small clamp

  7. Gradient on Bz small clamp

  8. Gradient in Bx large clamp

  9. Gradient in By large clamp

  10. Gradient in Bz large clamp

  11. Turn on Holding field • Bx(000) -8.6367 gauss • By(000) +6.3515 gauss • Bz(000) +5.6127 gauss • dBx/dX 6.0 mg/cm was 6.0 • dBy/dY 1.5 mg/cm was 2.0 • dBz/dZ 2.5 mg/cm was 3.2 • Gradients from -20 to +20 target length

  12. Gradient in Bx with holding field on

  13. Gradient in By with holding field

  14. Gradient in Bz with holding field

  15. Conclusions • Larger clamp helps to reduce some gradients Bx especially • Gradients do not match measurements • Holding fields are not impacted by the clamp extension
