  1. Polycarbonate has become one of the most popular materials used in a wide range of applications, the most ideal one being roofing – roofing of residential as well as commercial spaces. This popularity is due to the amazing characteristics that this material possesses, including durability, heat resistance, UV protection, flexibility, lightweight, and much more. However, in spite of polycarbonate being so easy to carry and install, there are a few considerations you need to make, and tips you need to follow, while working with a polycarbonate sheet. • No matter how reliable and professional your polycarbonate sheet manufacturers may be, any kind of errors in the process of installation may damage yoursheets. • First of all, you need to read all the instructions and specifications given by the manufacturer with the polycarbonate sheet that you have purchased. Accordingly, you need to follow all your subsequent steps. If you do not abide by the instructions, the manufacturer’s warranty that you have got with your product will turninvalid. • When you are beginning to install your polycarbonate roof, remember to do so at a minimum pitch of 5 degrees, so that the rain water or any other unnecessary material is allowed to run off towards the gutter, thus preventing moisture and dirt from collecting on yourroof.

  2. While installing your polycarbonate roofs, remember to keep he UV-protected side of the sheet facing the sun, so that the harmful UV radiations of the sun are prevented from entering the sheets towards the indoors. This way, you can gain maximum sunlight while keeping away the harmful radiations. There will be a sticker on the sheet to let you know which the UV-protected side is. Also take care not to scratch the sheet as this will damage the protective layer. • You must use purlin tape on all the surfaces that come in contact with the timber; but remember not to use sheets with purlin spacing wider than recommended, or your sheets will sag and let water collect in those saggingareas. • Another very important element you need to remember is to make allowances within your sheets, so that they can expand or contract as and when required. This consideration is based on the fact that temperature changes throughout the day cause polycarbonate sheetsto expand and contract. So, if there are no allowances for such thermal movement, the resistance to temperature adjustments will cause the roofing sheets to buckle. Also, you must pre-drill the screw holes into the sheets before fixing them, and keep the holes a little oversized to make room for thermal adjustments to be made. Additionally, the caps and flashings should also be pre-drilled so that the roofing sheets underneath can also shift with temperaturechange. • You must avoid using silicone to cure your polycarbonate roofing because polycarbonate expands and contracts much more as compared to silicone. However, if there is no other option, make sure you use only neutral curesilicone. • These tips should be carefully considered and implemented while installing polycarbonate roofs to avoid any kind of damage, and to elongate the years of usage of yoursheets. • For more information visit: TuflitePolymers
