  1. TRANSPORTATION TUESDAY Learning the techniques and finding different ways to deal with problems on the road is helpful but applying it is not quite that simple. We read about new techniques and defensive skills but how many of us can honestly say that we apply all of it. It’s a matter of individual perseverance. A quick quiz! Find out how much you really know Today’s presentation is all about applying the techniques we know.

  2. The quiz is simple. You have a few questions with multiple answers that you can choose from. Select the answer you think is right and then click the mouse to check if your option is correct. Some of the questions have two answers. Ready to take a quiz? • You stop for pedestrians waiting to cross at a zebra crossing. They do not start to cross. What should you do? • Sound your horn • Be patient and wait • Drive on • Wave them to cross • Motorcyclists ride in daylight with their headlights switched on because: • It is a legal requirement • They are requesting you to move out of their way • There are speed bumps ahead • They need to be seen

  3. More questions You are travelling behind a bus that pulls up at a bus stop. What should you do? Indicate and accelerate past the bus Watch carefully for pedestrians Be ready to give way to the bus Pull up behind the bus You are on the fast track on a 4 lane one-way road. The driver behind is tailgating. You should: Accelerate and gradually increase the gap between you and the other driver. Ignore the driver and maintain speed limit. Indicate, check mirrors and when safe, move into the next lane. Your vehicle has broken down on a motorway. You are not able to stop at the hard shoulder. What should you do first? Switch on your hazard lights and move into a safe area. Stop following traffic and ask for help Attempt to repair your vehicle quickly Place a warning triangle on the road

  4. A few more to go… When traffic lights are out of order, who has priority? Traffic going straight on Traffic turning Nobody, you need to stop carefully for other vehicles assuming that they may not stop. Traffic turning left What two safeguards could you use against a fire risk to your vehicle? Keep water levels above maximum Carry a fire extinguisher Avoid driving with full tank petrol Use unleaded petrol Check for a strong smell of petrol Another driver does something to upset you. You should: Try not to react and make a bad situation worse. Let the driver know how you feel Flash your headlights several times Sound your horn to stop the driver from aggressive behaviour.

  5. The last few questions • Do you think it is safe to wear your seatbelt when your vehicle catches fire or goes under water? • Yes, it helps to prevent unconsciousness, allowing you to escape safely from your vehicle • No, it can trap you in your vehicle • Airbags can be used instead of seatbelts • In which of these situations should you avoid overtaking? • On a motorway • Just after a bend • Approaching a bend • On a one-way road

  6. Hope you enjoyed the quiz and are ready to apply what you learnt today!
