  2. Biography • Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston Massachusetts, on January 19, 1809. Poe's parents passed away when he was very young and he was taken into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Allan where he received his middle name. • Edgar Allan Poe is famous for his tales of horror and mystery. He often had a negative view towards life and majority of his work have a dark and depressing atmosphere. Poe was also a magazine editor and critic as well. • Poe's life was full of personal problems and poverty, and like most famous writers, his work was not much appreciated until after his death. Poe died at the age of forty in 1849. “I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.” - Edgar Allan Poe
