Communication SCHEDULE&DEADLINES • TRADITIONAL but FLUID Schedules; on-call 24/7 – • Answers Press Inquiries, community inquiries, web inquiries; collaborates for City events, partner priorities, emergency management messaging • OUTWARD-FACING POSITIONS are never “off work” – • Must always be cognizant of organization affiliation and representation, even away from workplace or work-related functions. • DEADLINES may vary; importance of accuracy remains first priority – • Typically same-day turnaround for Press inquiries (often pushing other projects aside); speeches, letters, community responses may allow for additional time.

CommunicationEXPECTATIONS&STANDARDS (with the World at your Fingertips) • Communication in 2019 is: • Instantaneous • Easily digestible • Readily available • Often individualized • Communication professionals must: • Be resourceful, prepared, particular, strategic • Value quality and accuracy over immediacy

CommunicationWHY DOES IT MATTER? • Changes the conversation & culture by: • Establishing open lines of communication • Negating rumors/untruths • Bridging gaps between City & citizens Which all aids in the efficiency & effectiveness of local government, so that you are best served by the City of Lawton.

CommunicationTOOLS&AVENUES • Traditional promotional outlets: • Media Ops – interviews, written materials, images • Online forums – website, social media platforms • Public Outreach – site-visits, community engagement • Additional valuable outlets: • RELATIONSHIPS – Collaborations and partnerships with other industry professionals and local agencies
