  1. SPIN PHYSICS AT NICA A.P. Nagaytsev, JINR , Dubna 1. NICA Project. 2. Proposed measurements. 3. LOI preparation. 4. Conclusions. ADVANCED STUDIES INSTITUTE SYMMETRIES AND SPIN, NICA-SPIN-2013, Prague, July 7 - 13, 2013

  2. NICA Project. The purpose of Spin Physics program at NICA is the study of the nucleon spin structure with high intensity polarized light nuclear beams NICA collider option with the light nuclear beams with the proton and deuteron ones. Collider can allow us to reach very high collision proton energy up to Ös ~ 26 GeV with the luminosity up to 1032 cm2/s (for Ös ~ 26 GeV) . For deuteron beams the collision energy per nucleon up to Ös ~ 12 GeV with the average luminosity up to 1031 cm2/s (for Ös ~ 12 GeV) . Both proton and deuteron beams can be effectively polarized. All these advantages give us unique possibilities to investigate at NICA the polarized phenomena and nucleon spin structure - one of the main tasks of the modern high energy physics Reports by D.Peshekhonov and A.Kovalenko ADVANCED STUDIES INSTITUTE SYMMETRIES AND SPIN, NICA-SPIN-2013, Prague, July 7 - 13, 2013 2

  3. Proposed measurements. The following subjects are under consideration: ► DY processes. ► J/Y production processes. ► Studies of elastic reactions. ► Spin effects in one and two hadronproduction processes. ► Prompt photons. ► Spin effects in inclusive high-pT reactions. ► Final spin states effects and polarization effects in heavy ion collisions. ADVANCED STUDIES INSTITUTE SYMMETRIES AND SPIN, NICA-SPIN-2013, Prague, July 7 - 13, 2013 3

  4. Proposed measurements. DY prosesses. The measurement of pretzelosity PDF is also under consideration. Crucial test of our understanding of T-odd effects within QCD and the factorization approach to the processes sensitive to transverse parton momenta. Reports by A.Efremov and O.Shevchenko ADVANCED STUDIES INSTITUTE SYMMETRIES AND SPIN, NICA-SPIN-2013, Prague, July 7 - 13, 2013 4

  5. Proposed measurements. J/Ψ processes. Tests of models for unpolarized/polarized J/Y production (gluon evaporation, NRQCD,...) Transversity and Boer-Mulders PDFs from J/Y production with low s (duality model), report by O.Shevchenko Transverse SSA (Sivers PDF), J/Y polarization, report by E.Zemlyanichkina ADVANCED STUDIES INSTITUTE SYMMETRIES AND SPIN, NICA-SPIN-2013, Prague, July 7 - 13, 2013 5

  6. Proposed measurements. Studies of elastic reactions. Differential cross section in pp, An Ann up to maximal values of -t. Krisch effect. Especially important for pd and dd elastic reactions. Measurements of amplitudes of elastic pp cross section. Total cross sections for elastic pp and pd reactions in pure initial spin states. Comparison of the differential cross sections and analyzing powers of elastic and quasielastic pp reactions. Polarimetry with elastic quasielastic reactions ADVANCED STUDIES INSTITUTE SYMMETRIES AND SPIN, NICA-SPIN-2013, Prague, July 7 - 13, 2013 6

  7. Proposed measurements. Prompt photons. Prompt photons produced in pp interaction Access to gluon Sivers function via STSA: Access to gluon polarization via DLSA: Report by A.Guskov ADVANCED STUDIES INSTITUTE SYMMETRIES AND SPIN, NICA-SPIN-2013, Prague, July 7 - 13, 2013 7

  8. Proposed measurements. Spin effects in inclusive high-pT reactions. • Problems not resolved up to now at xT~ 1: • double spin pp-elastic scattering at 900c.m.s.; • one spin asymmetries (pions); • hyperon’s polarization; • deuteron spin structure for internal • momentum > 250 MeV/c. • Reactions : • pp-, np- and nn-interactions from dd-collisions; • - double spin NN-elastic scattering at 900c.m.s.; • exclusive • - Nd – collisions with asymmetric energies. Advantages NICA-SPIN project: - acceleration polarized p, d, 3He(?) beams;- unique spin conservation technic;- tagging stations. Report by S.Shimansky ADVANCED STUDIES INSTITUTE SYMMETRIES AND SPIN, NICA-SPIN-2013, Prague, July 7 - 13, 2013 8

  9. Proposed measurements. Final spin states effects, Polarization effects in heavy ion collisions. Initial and final state spin effects with SPD/MPD/BM@N The following polarization observables are also under consideration: • Polarization of Λ as a probe of formation of isotropic matter; • Correlations of Λ polarization with charge separation as a complementary signal for CP-violation in dense matter , • Transverse handedness as a probe for collective orbital momentum of the matter, • Tensor polarization of dileptons as a complementary probe of matter formation, dilepton production mechanisms and collective orbital momentum, • T-odd and T-even effects - vector and tensor polarization • Rotating QCD matter • Spin effects - search for signs of global rotation • ChiralVortical Effect & neutron asymmetries. Report by O.Teryaev ADVANCED STUDIES INSTITUTE SYMMETRIES AND SPIN, NICA-SPIN-2013, Prague, July 7 - 13, 2013 9

  10. LoI preparation. LoI for spin physics experiments at NICA is under preparation. Several international workshops NICA-SPIN 2013 are organized. The first workshop was in Dubna (see http://nica.jinr.ru/files/Spin_program/NICA-SPIN2013/program.html), the second will be in Prague(http://thsun1.jinr.ru/~praha/2013), the third one will be at Dubna during the DSPIN2013 workshop (http://theor.jinr.ru/~spin/2013).
