  1. Charlton Church of England Primary School Ofsted Inspection October 2013 Left click mouse to progress through pages and points. Right click for other options.

  2. Parents and carers say their children are happy at school. Pupils are polite and welcoming to visitors. They say they enjoy school, especially the visits and the after-school clubs. The very recently appointed Headteacher has improved the governors’ understanding of their role and has gained the confidence of the staff. Where teaching is stronger, activities are imaginative. These were seen where pupils were writing poems in Year 6 and exploring ratio in Year 5. Positive points

  3. During this meeting we will seek to re-assure parents of what is being done to address the weaknesses identified during the visit. You will hear from Governors, The Headteacher, The Diocese and The Local Authority on what is in place to support the School. This inspection was Grade 4 – “Inadequate”

  4. The governing body takes the grade very seriously and is working closely with Mrs Werth to address the issues. On the recommendation of the local authority Sue Parkin, a recently retired headteacher of a 'good' Church of England primary school will be supporting the work and development of the GB. Governing Body Response

  5. The inspectors observed twelve lessons or part-lessons, including some joint observations with the headteacher. The headteacher and an inspector looked at pupils’ work together. Inspectors listened to pupils reading, looked at pupils’ books in lessons and spoke to pupils about their work. The inspectors also observed playtimes and watched an assembly. Meetings were held with senior and middle leaders, the Chair of the Governing Body and other governor representatives and a representative from the local authority. What happened?

  6. Inspectors scrutinised a number of documents, including the school’s checks on how well it is doing, the school’s improvement plan, governing body minutes, records relating to behaviour, attendance and safeguarding and data on pupils’ performance. Inspectors took account of the 21 responses to the online questionnaire (Parent View) received during the inspection as well as 15 staff questionnaires. What happened?

  7. The Report is divided into 4 sections: Pupil Achievement Quality of Teaching Behaviour and Safety of Pupils Leadership and Management The Report

  8. The Outcome • During the two day inspection in October 2013 Charlton Church of England Primary School were found by OFSTED to be providing an inadequate standard in all four judgement areas. • It is now February 2014.

  9. The Present It is now February 2014. Although the outcome of the inspection was confidential until publication. Three calendar months and 12 school weeks have passed and work has been fully underway to seek to make rapid improvements in the provision for our children.

  10. The Journey Improvement first and foremost is the responsibility of the School Leadership and the Governing Body, but we would seek the wholehearted support of all staff, parents and families on this journey toward better outcomes for our children.

  11. The Future I would now like to introduce our Headteacher Mrs Kim Werth who will take us through what has already been done to address some of the key points within the OFSTED Report.

  12. Thankyou
