Bamyan Preserver Association for Cultural Heritage (BPACH) is a Cultural, Non Governmental, Non Political, Non Profitable, Association.
BPACH Objectives • Preserving the World Cultural Heritage Site of Bamyan • Preserving the National Cultural Heritage Sites of Bamyan • Preserving the Local Cultural Heritage of Bamyan • Preserving the “Cultural Landscape” of Bamyan • Preserving the Natural Heritage sites of Bamyan
Low capacity of relevant Government departments to Preserve the Cultural and Natural Heritage • Lack of community participation for the preservation of Cultural and Natural Heritage • Deteriorating conditions of Cultural and Natural Heritage Needs for the Establishment of BPACH
BPACH Activities • Holding Seminar at Budha Destruction day 10th March 2006
Holding Hazaragi traditional Music concert in Bamyan for Nawroz
BPACH Proposed Plan • Publishing Biweekly paper • Establishment of FM Radio Station in Bamyan • Establishment of BPACH branches in the districts which have Cultural and Natural Heritage • Holding workshops on : • Awareness on the national and international laws for the preservation of WHS and NH for: • Afghan National Police • Teachers of Schools • Community Development Councils • Line Departments • Public awareness Campaigns of Cultural Heritage values
Enhancing the public awareness on Bamyan historical background for youth on the following subtitles: • From Buddhism period to the coming of Islam • From Islamic era to Changiz Khan occupation • From Changiz Khan occupation to Russian occupation • From Russian occupation to 2001( Buddha Destruction) • Knowing Bamyan through local fictions
Problems • Lack of professional and sufficient personnel in the relevant gov. departments and communities. • Lack of knowledge about the values of Cultural and Natural Heritage • Lack of ownership feeling for the WH among the communities • Existence of well organized smugglers • Poverty and expectation of gaining huge profit through trafficking the historical monuments
Problems • Lack of awareness about the national and international laws on the preservation of WH and NH • High demand for modernization • Lack of Special force for Preservation
BPACH Request • Repairing at least one of the Buddha statue • Extending the Bamyan Landscape to include Band-e-Amir as WHS or new nominating. • Paying attention to the Red City
