  4. Lesson Using Blackboard • The students will be able to analyze and evaluate the effects of a break in the food chain.

TEKS Objectives • Science TEK 3.9 A- observe and identify characteristics among species that allow each to survive and reproduce • Science TEK 3.9 B- analyze how adaptive characteristics help individuals within a species survive and reproduce • Writing TEK 3.14 A- write to record ideas and reflections

  6. Student Directions • Log on to Blackboard/external links/science/food chain reaction • Start activity to review about the organisms in the food chain • Select the Northern food chain link and complete the activity until the start again page—but choose the Forest Food chain.

  8. Food Chain Blog Question • What would happen to the rabbits living in a grassland, if all their predators were removed? Explain your answer. • How could you explain the reason why a Snowshoe Hare’s coat and feet help it adapt to its environment?

  9. Register in Our Courses • Log on to Blackboard (your username and password are the same as your computer log in) • Mrs. Kaut’s Class • LeGuen’s Third Grade Class (password: 402)

  10. Select YourBlackboard Course • Now that you’re in Blackboard you “should” see your course on the right side of the screen • Click onto your course • Mrs. Kaut’s Class

  13. Manage Course Menu • You’ll need to decide what content areas you want for your Blackboard Course • Mrs. Kaut’s Class • LeGuen’s Third Grade Class • Blackboard has custom content areas that you may keep or delete • You can add your own content areas

Adding Content Areas • Control Panel/Course Options/Manage Course Menu • To add a content area you need to find the add bar and click on the content area folder • You may name the content area using a name that Blackboard has already created or you may type in your own name • Check the box for Available for Student/Participant Users • Submit/OK

Removing Content Areas • Control Panel/Course Options/Manage Course Menu • Make sure you are in Manage Course Menu • You should all the content areas listed • If you would like to delete one you need to click on the REMOVE button on the right side of the screen • It’s going to warn you that this action will remove all content under this area & and it will ask you if you would like to continue. Choose OK to remove the content area

  16. Course Menu Design • You can choose for your content areas to show as buttons or text • Please choose buttons or text and design it for your course

  17. How to Add a Folder to Your Content Areas • Control Panel/Content Area/Course Documents • Click on Folder • Type in the name of the folder and choose a color for it • Submit/OK

How to Add an Item to Your Content Areas • Control Panel/Content Area/Course Documents/Choose the specific folder you want the item to go in • Click on Item • Type in the name of the item and choose a color for it • If you would like to describe the item you can type in the text box • Under #2 Content you can attach a file by clicking Browse and finding the document on your computer • Submit/OK

How to Add Announcements • Control Panel/Course Tools/Announcements • Click on Add Announcement • Type in the subject (you have to have a subject or it won’t let you submit in the end) • Choose the font, size, and color and then write your announcement • Under Option you can use choose when the announcement will appear • Under Course Link you can link your announcement to a document or a website • Submit/OK

  20. How to Add an External Link • Control Panel/Content Area/External Links • Click External Link • Name it • Cut and paste the website address into the URL box • If you would like to describe the link you can type in the text box • Submit/OK
