How to plant bougainvillea • Steps for planting a successful bougainvillea • Remember to wear gloves to protect from thorns • Dig the hole twice as large as the root ball (stay away from irrigation piping!) • Turn the plant upside down and gently remove from pot • Gently place plant into the hole, and surround the plant with mulch mixed with native soil • Leave a well around the plant as you fill in the hole with soil • We want the plant to climb and spread along the fence
