  1. Interesting Facts On Barbados – No Surprise It Is A Popular Tourist Destination Barbados continues to grow as a popular tourist destination. The island is located on the southeastern Caribbean Sea, approximately one hundred miles east of Saint Vincent. The island is triangular, measuring twenty miles northwest to southeast and fifteen miles east to west. Even though it is located in the western part of the Atlantic Ocean, it is still considered a Caribbean Island and not an Atlantic island. Unlike most countries that experience four weather seasons annually, Barbados only experiences two. They have a dry season, which is December to May, and a wet season, which runs from June to December. The wet season is usually downpours and thunderstorms, which do not last long with average temperatures sitting up to twenty-eight degrees Celsius each day, which is why Barbados is a popular tourist destination throughout the year. Barbados was originally under British rule for three hundred years and gained its independence in 1966. The first English ship landed on the island on 14 May 1625 with the first settlers arriving in February 1927, where they cultivate the land with sugar, tobacco, and cotton. There is still a lot of British influences seen in Barbados today, including street names and red post boxes. If you are thinking of traveling to Barbados, you will be pleased to know that the official language is English. Many residents speak Bajan, which is based on English with West African influences. They also have the third oldest parliament in the world, which has been governed uninterrupted since 1639. Those who enjoy surfing flock to the east coast of the island, where there are strong swells from the Atlantic Ocean. They hold the Barbados National Surf Championships in Bathsheba every November. In addition to this, Barbados has wonders hidden below the surface with Harrison's Cave located in the central uplands. This underground cave comprises winding passages and deep caves with cascading waterfalls, flowing streams, and ponds. Further, don't be surprised if you see flying fish, which are very common in the warm water of Barbados. The island is known as the Land of the Flying Fish with the national dish being flying fish and couscous. The dish is usually served on a Friday Did you know that Barbados is home to more than fifty beaches including white beaches with palms to smaller coves? It is a diverse coastline with the west coast known as the Platinum Coat, with picture-perfect beaches and luxury hotels and villas. It is a haven for all water sports, due to its amazing coastline from diving and surfing to kayaking and fishing. One of the popular attractions when visiting the island is swimming with the turtles with four species of nesting turtles on the island including loggerheads, leatherbacks, green turtles, and hawksbill turtles. Surrounded by magnificent coral reefs, Barbados is a diverse paradise with tropical sea life and natural beauty. Wildlife is abundant from monkeys to birds and flying fish to dolphins and parrotfish. The country relies on tourism and is the biggest industry including being chief earner and employer.
