  2. Program Elements • BME Sr. capstone design course • BME students (2-3), ME students (2-3) • OT/PT grad students (1) • Engineering and clinical mentor • Rehab Engineering/Assistive Tech • Clinical or industry; community groups • Total of 18-20 teams annually • Supported by R25 grant

Novel Feature • Proposed international capstone • Nanjing (NJ) University (near Shanghai) • NJ faculty: OSU post-doc (CHBE) • Initial idea: dual capstone project • OSU and NJ teams build same device in their own locations. • Teleconference to compare ideas/practices • Possible visit of NJ students to OSU at beginning of year.

  4. Novel Feature • New idea: • NJ students visit in summer, and include 1 week of BME Engineering Design mini-camp at OSU • BME Faculty lectures • Interaction in undergrad-level Design workshop • NJ team to be given a project familiar to OSU faculty, who will come in Spring to serve as mentor (2-6 weeks).

  5. Best Practices • OSU has a collaboration “gateway” in Shanghai.

  6. Outcomes • Student-level • Greater global appreciation of economy, team-interactions, etc. • Broader career options • Possible dual-degree programs (in future) • Faculty-level • Instructor professional development • Faculty interactions and research collaborations through visiting scholars or seminar speaking.
