  3. What do you like? (TO DO/HAVE) = What are your preferences? What do you like to do at the weekends? What do you like to drink when you go to the pub? What do you like to see and do when you go on holiday?

  4. What is he/she like? (PERSONALITY) Q. What is your new French teacher like? • He is really friendly and approachable. Q. What are his parents like? • They are nice, but a bit over-protective. Q. What is your boss like? A. He is horrible. I don’t like him at all.

  5. What does he/she look like? (APPEARANCE) • What does your brother look like? • He is tall and has short brown hair. He looks like my dad. • What do your friends look like? - They are all very pretty and smiley.

  6. Describe your opinion of the best spouse/ neighbour/ boss/ friend… I get on well with my neighbour. She is very friendly and cheerful. Whenever we see each other she says hello and we have a nice chat. When I go on holiday she looks after my cat and waters my plants, and she never disturbs me with loud noises. However, I used to have a terrible neighbour. He was very grumpy and would always complain about everything. He was a real pain in the neck.

Some expressions… • A chip off the old block = A person who is a chip off the old block resembles one of their parents in appearance, character or behaviour. • Down to earth = Someone who is sensible and who has realistic expectations. • Happy-go-lucky = If you are a happy-go-lucky person, you are cheerful and carefree all the time. • Spitting image= If one person is the spitting image of another, they look exactly like each other. • Ugly as sin= This expression is used to refer to people or things that are considered to be very unattractive.
