  2. For Curators • Use HIVE to generate subject, taxon, and spatial terms suggestion. • Curator’s needs: • Get terms suggestion from HIVE based on “Depositor supplied keywords ”, “Abstract” and “Title”. • Apply selected suggestions to fill in the metadata curation workflow.

  3. Screen Overview • HIVE Automatic Indexer as an add-on to the curator metadata editing interface. HIVE indexer embedded into the metadata editing page. The detail design will be explained in the following slides.

The Essential Use Cases Curator HIVE-DRYAD Widget Generate controlled terms suggestion based on default parameters: Default selected vocabularies: LCSH, NBII, AGROVOC Index on: Author supplied keywords 1. Open the Metadata Editing Page 2. Curator click on generated term Display term information: id, label, etc. 3. Curator expand the individual term Display broader and narrower terms 4. Curator change any of the parameters: Vocabularies and index on; click on “Run HIVE” Regenerate controlled terms and display Fill in the metadata fields: subject, taxon or spatial 5. Curator compare and select generated terms, then click “Apply to….” button 6. Curator search arbitrary interested term which is not generated via HIVE Display search results in a pop up dialog.

  5. 1. Generate term suggestions based on author supplied keywords The author supplied keywords is compared with the HIVE generated controlled terms.

  6. Step 1: Select vocabularies; e.g., LCSH and TGN are selected by default. Checkbox allows curator select controlled terms that applied. Step 2: Curator can feed HIVE with Abstract, Title, or author provided keywords Step 3: Click the Run HIVE button Step 4: Apply selection to subjects, taxon or spatial metadata field

  7. If term has broader or narrower terms, a flag appeared, click on the flag broader terms and narrower terms are displayed.

  8. HIVE generated term is clickable: a popup containing the detailed information regarding the term is shown when the term is clicked.

  9. Search: If curator needs to pull out more controlled terms, she can do the search. Popup dialog shows the search result Same as former Screen: term is clickable, expandable if there are broader narrower terms. Checkbox and Add to Selection button allows curator to fill terms into the subject fields.

  10. For Depositors • Depositor needs HIVE to generate keyword suggestions during submission processes. • Depositor does not have the knowledge of controlled vocabularies --- they don’t have to choose vocabularies, and know the suggestions are drawn from which vocabularies. • Quick and easy

  12. Modal Dialog pops up Click the arrow. Term is expandable to see broaders and narrowers if there are any. Link to HIVE Web to see the result which contains more information, e.g. vocabularies Click the button to add selected terms to submission
