  10. TECHNICIANS! Each mode of transportation needs some sort of mechanic, a technician, to keep the fleet of vehicles/planes/ships running smoothly

  11. Some Technician Jobs • Transmission Mechanic: Repairs manual and automatic transmissions in automobiles, buses, trucks, and other automotive vehicles: • In Central NY: average salary =$ 29,665. With benefits and bonuses average total compensation = $36,161.

DIESEL MECHANIC • Repairs and maintains diesel engines used to power machines, such as buses, ships, trucks, railroad trains, electric generators, and construction machinery, using handtools, precision measuring instruments, and machine tools: • Central NY average salary = $36,538. • With benefits, =$44,724.

  13. ELECTRICAL ENGINEER • For example, “lead electrical design efforts for various electrical projects associated with the light rail transportation system.” • Base Pay: $30.00 - $35.00/Hour

  14. AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE • Maintain piston, turbo prop & jet aircraft. • Prior experience and strong trouble shooting skills a must. • Competitive benefits package. (Plane mechanics are just plane nuts!)

  15. Marine Service Technician • Maintain and repair 20'-30' boats. • Experience required. • Base Pay:$10.00 - $20.00/Hour plus benefits.

  16. TIPS ON GETTING HIRED There many different jobs in transportation, so qualifications for entry-level positions vary. In general, more advanced positions require more training or prior experience.

  17. GETTING HIRED • Research the company you're applying to and its competitors. It will impress an interviewer if you demonstrate knowledge about the company and how it's different from others. • The transportation industry values time. Be on time!

  18. Preparing Academically • Take courses that will prepare you for this field, such as automotive technology, marine service technician, boating safety. • Positions such as airplane maintenance will require a strong background in math and science. You can learn how to pilot a plane before you can drive a car.
