  2. Why dance? • Dancing is a great sport that keeps you fit and is really fun. There are many styles of dance including Hip Hop, Contemporary, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Funk, Lyrical, Acro and Troupe. • Dancing strengthens your muscles, improves your performance skills and trains your brain to remember technique and steps.

  3. WHY I ENJOY DANCING. • Dancing is my favourite hobby because I do it with my friends and I love performing. • I have been dancing since I was 2 and I dance Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz and Tap at Live2Dance.

  4. Before you start dancing you need to: Stretch your legs, back and arms. Drink lots of water. Eat some fruit or a muesli bar. Tie all your hair back out of your face. Always concentrate on your teacher and go over your dances many times especially when you need to learn a dance very quickly like I had to do one night at my dance school.

Styles of dance • Hip Hop • Hip Hop also known as street dance is a fast paced style of dancing that include sub styles such as popping, locking and breaking. • Ballet • Ballet is a very classic style of dance that requires technique and poise. • Contemporary • Contemporary is like Ballet but it can be much more characteristic and dramatic. There is a lot more moving in Contemporary.

Styles of dance • Jazz • Jazz is a modern style of dance that can be fast or slow and is usually themed with the music. • Tap • Shoes worn in tap have metal plates on the toe that make a beat or ‘tap’ sound when hit against the floor. • Lyrical • Lyrical dance is dancing done to lyrics and words, not music.

  7. In a performance • Have your shoes polished and your costumes ironed and clean. • Your make up must include foundation, eye liner, mascara or false eyelashes and red lipstick. • Before every routine stretch and go through your steps in your mind. • Unless it is not in the theme of your dance, always smile!

  9. Dance is a really great sport and even if you don’t end up doing it as a career it’s a great way to keep fit, strong and focused.
