  2. Antarctica is located at the south pole. • Feb.-Nov.-is the summer. • The coldest ever is -129 degree F Or-89 degree C! • Winter temperatures go down to-120 degree F.

  3. Just the Facts • The sea ice can reach 1,000 miles from Antarctica. • Most of Antarctica’s crust of ice is more than one mile thick.

  4. Drifting • Antarctica was at the equator during the Cambrian Period. • During the time of the dinosaurs it drifted south.

  5. Animals • Without plants, Antarctica can’t support wild land animals. • Sea Birds • Petrels are long winged birds. • Penguins are excellent divers.

  6. Ocean Animals • The blue whale is the largest animal on earth. • Many seals live in Antarctica. • Many animals like the humpback whale migrate to warmer waters June to August.

  7. Visiting Antarctica Planes land on snowy runways. Most of the visitors are scientists. Some visitors are people who want to see or study Antarctica’s amazing wildlife and scenery.
