Structure of the presentation • Trends 1999 -2004 among new drug clients <20 (in all treatment centres) • Profile of young people in outpatient treatment centres in 2004 • Focus on young outpatient cannabis clients in 2004 • Limitations: • TDI use the age groups <15 and 15-19 – not more detailed breakdown • Breakdown by age is only included in some variables (by gender, first/all clients, primary and secondary drug) • 8 countries have trend data from 1999 to 2004 • 16 countries have a breakdown by age in 2004

Summarising… • Total number of new clients increased from 1999 to 2004, whilst • Number of clients under 20 stable/decrease • In 2004 17% of drug users aged under 20 ask for drug treatment • Young people <20 ask for treatment mainly for use of cannabis, volatile and stimulants • Higher % of young people in the new than in the old Member States (except Finland) • Variation between countries • 75% of <15 and 63% of 15-19 in treatment for primary cannabis use • There is a group of young people in treatment for opiates (17,3% of 15-19) • Higher proportion of female clients among young clients (especially <15) than old clients • Little correspondence between countries in the level of cannabis use in LTP and TD
