  1. OBS Verification status and future needs Anna Maria Di Giorgio - INAF IFSI Rome

  2. OBS functionalities Last delivery: 10 September 2007 – OBS 5.3. All functionalities specified in ICDs implemented All procedures algorithms implemented and tested except for peakup procedure, still to be optimised. - A possible modified algorithm circulated by Do Kester to implement a simple χ2 bidim fit to a gaussian profile with 3x3 map data. - Assumptions about map orientation/indexing with respect to telescope and chopper motion still under discussion.

  3. OBS functionalities • Open points: • 1. WBS tuning algorithm late modifications implemented to cope with • saturated darks problem still to be tested with (at least) parallel setup). • SPR-1199WBS attenuator tuning should cope with saturated darks: • In some tests the IF signal is so high that part of the WBS subbands can be • always saturated, even at the attenuator settings 15+7. For most attenuator settings • the illumination is so high that even the dark pixels are saturated. • The attenuator tuning algorithm has been changed to be able to cope with saturated darks. • dark > dmax: set the attenuation for the corresponding band to 7 and generate an event • What is missing (TBC): • dark < dmin: set attenuation for band 1 and the band where dark<dmin occured to 7 • 2. the 3 SPRs on sporadic problems in WBS data acquisition still open . • SPR-1207Some WBS frames shifted in channels • SPR-1268bad WBS dataframes in series of total power spectra

  4. OBS verification - 12 SPRs already implemented and tested (as far as possible) @IFSI, to be tested/validated @SRON - 5 SCRs already implemented and tested (as far as possible) @IFSI, to be tested/validated @SRON - 13 SPRs still in the analysis phase.

  5. OBS Status • OBS Architecture fixed and stable since May 2006 (OBS 3.6 release). • Main open issue: memory shortage. • Memories onboard ICU • 1) PM memory 3MB • 2) Data memory 3MB • 3) EEPROM memory 1MB – this is “driving” the maximum size allowed for OBS: • 2 partitions, 128 pages each (512 KB), 126 usable • Actual size: 123 pages. • The OBS maintenance team @IFSI is supporting remotely the FM testing activities. • IFSI test environment: - ICU AVM1 model + Subsystems I/F simulators provided by SRON + CDMS simulator SW (RAL) + SCOS 2000 + MIB provided by SRON • Limitations: - Timing of command issuing by CDMS cannot be simulated exactly • - Limited overall reproducibility of FM test results • - OBS Management facility is missing.

  6. OBS plans • OBS validation and verification procedures to be updated • include new tests. • Merge IFSI test procedures executed with local commands • Update test scripts to cope with more recent MIB issues • Update test tools for result verification • Support to IST tests data analysis: • is the problem of TC verification/Event reports logging in the archive solved? • Next delivery will include: • new peakup • minor SCRs • Solve new SPRs on OBS 5.3 • 3) Planned date: ≥ 15 October

  7. SPR-1207Some WBS frames shifted in channels Hot and cold frames can be compared. The hot frame is shifted about 250 channels to the right relative to where it should be (relative to cold frame). WBS H data

  8. SPR-1207Some WBS frames shifted in channels – WBS V data • There are no circular buffers onboard allowing such behaviour. • The size of the blocks used to read data from FIFOs and to store data onboard are not compatible with the observed shifts. • Measurement was carried out successfully (no error/warning messages) • Spectrometers housekeeping were showing a correct data acquisition.

  9. SPR-1268bad WBS dataframes in series of total power spectra 170 measurements Frame 118 WBS H Abnormal bandpass shape, scan-count corrected intensity 800-1000 in sub-band 1.
