Github: https://github.com/jay-lau Stackalytics: http://stackalytics.com/report/users/jay-lau-513 Sina Weibo: @platformer Tetris: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DMsnGxQ3P-OwZCF3uxaUeEFaKX8LqUqmmgQ_7EVK7Y8/edit?usp=sharing

  2. China Systems and Technology Group ATL OpenStack Summit SummaryGuang Ya Liu (liugya@cn.ibm.com)

  3. Key Capabilities for a Cloud (From RedHat)

  4. Key Capabilities • Self-service Provisioning • Chargeback/showback • Capacity Managing and planning • Deploy N-Tier Applications (Fast Deployment) • Public Cloud Bursting/Flexing (Auto Scaling) • Leveraging Existing Infrastructure • Cloud Brokering (A interesting feature for hybrid cloud)

  5. Main Companies

  6. What are they doing • IBM • IBM announces Cloud Manager for OpenStack with an intelligent scheduler • http://www-03.ibm.com/press/us/en/pressrelease/43892.wss • IBM presented landscaper for heat/HOT template edit dashboard • Canonical • The Juju server runs on any system with Ubuntu Server installed from your laptop to private cloud to any certified public clouds. • Including support for standards such as TOSCA chef and docker among others

  7. Juju Charm 1. https://jujucharms.com/

  8. IBM BlueMix https://ace.ng.bluemix.net/ Free for 30 Days

  9. What are they doing • HP • Helion Cloud • Kind of Cloud OS • Main Features • Simple Installation • Simplified upgrade • Model once, deploy everywhere • Multi-cloud provider support

  10. What are they doing • RedHat • Announced manageIQ Community (Hybrid Cloud) • Transition workloads across major cloud platforms • Optimize for geography, price, performance, platform and scaling preferences • Integrate with most popular platforms: AWS, OpenStack, vSphere, and RHEV • Set and manage automation policies for cloud apps, workloads, and cloud providers Comments for those companies?

  11. Superuser and Marketplace

  12. Superuser and Marketplace • Superuser • http://superuser.openstack.org/ • A new OpenStack publication • The publication will emphasize a range of technical to business-level issues with feature stories, case studies, tips and videos for OpenStack cloud architects and administrators

  13. Superuser and Marketplace • Marketplace • http://www.openstack.org/marketplace/ • Oriented around the path to adoption • Help users and operators to make informed decisions. • It will be the go-to spot for information-gathering in the early stages of Openstack adoption and for evaluating various production options.

  14. Hot Topics (My Observation)

  15. Hot Topics (My Observation) • Hybrid Cloud • Bare metal provisioning • Big Data on Cloud (Sahara) • Resource Scheduling • Docker and HEAT

  16. Hot Topics (My Observation) • Hybrid Cloud

  17. Hot Topics (My Observation) • Bare Metal Provisioning • Because of performance issues for VMs, some people are finding solutions for bare metal provisioning • AMD has the total solution and they are using Ironic as the solution, they said that Ironic is good enough to handle some basic cases for now. • IBM Platform Computing PCMSE can help do bare metal pattern provisioning • Big Data On Cloud • Sahara (Previous Savana) was promoted to a core project for OpenStack • IBM Platform Computing PCMAE can also help prevision Hadoop Cluster, some HPC Clusters on IBM SoftLayer.

  18. Hot Topics (My Observation) • Scheduler • Relatively hot as the design session discussed scheduler topics for almost one day on Friday • Two projects related to scheduler: Gantt and Blazar (Climate) • Gantt is aimed to provide a common scheduler service for OpenStack • Blazar is aimed to provide a common reservation service for OpenStack • The roadmap for Blazar is not clear now. TC suggest merge Blazar and Gantt to one project • Details refer to https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/juno-summit-resource-reservation • Blazar, GanttIBM Platform Computing EGO

  19. Hot Topics (My Observation) • Scheduler • OpenStack is focusing on initial placement policy, but no run time policy • Tetris proposed by IBM will handle run time policy (Guang Ya from IBM China and Gokul from IBM US proposed this project) • People from IBM, Intel and Hua Wei are working on this. • Docker and HEAT • HEAT can provision a Docker Container application
