  2. Have all the articles you will need for the bath and for dressing the baby afterwards. Collect soap, shampoo, a towel, a brush, a diaper, wipes, and clothes and socks. 2. Make this an opportunity for a “good time” with your baby.

  3. Be sure the room is warm. • Give a sponge bath until the umbilical cord has fallen off and the circumcision is healed. • It is a good idea to wash behind the ears, neck, hands and bottom on a daily basis even it your do not give your baby a full bath every day.

  4. Do not use soap on baby’s face. Use a mild soap and shampoo. A newborn’s skin is very sensitive. • Never leave the baby unattended in the bath tub or around water. • Check the temperature. The temp should be body temp. Always check the bath water before placing the baby in it.

  5. 9. Get a good grip on the baby. A wet baby is a slippery baby. 10. If your baby develops cradle-cap, simply remove the flakes gently with a soft brush after shampooing. 11. A portable bath is ideal for baby’s first baths. Place a towel underneath to prevent slipping.
