  1. The Worst Things About Water Damage Water damage is one of the last things anyone wants to deal with in their home. However, not all water damage is created equal. Certain attributes of a flood may make it much more dangerous and destructive. Below, we have listed three of the worst things about a water damage disaster so you know what is most important to avoid. If you ever find your home flooded, no matter how minor or major, don’t hesitate to give us a call at Trac Solutions in Eau Claire for help. Contaminated Water This can be one of the most serious and dangerous parts of a flood. Floodwater often contains dangerous bacteria and microorganisms that can cause discomfort and even serious diseases in some cases. The contamination level of floodwater is typically broken up into three different categories. The first, Clear Water, is floodwater that comes from a sanitary source like a sink. There isn’t anything to be concerned about with this type of floodwater in terms of contamination. The second type, Gray Water, poses a more serious threat. This type of floodwater contains mildly contaminated water like floodwater from a dishwasher. Contact with this type of floodwater may cause discomfort or illness. The final type, Black Water, is the most serious. This is highly contaminated floodwater that contains toxic materials like sewage or harsh chemicals. Do not try to clean this water up. This is a job that should only be left to the professionals for your own safety. Mold Damage Just when you think water damage is bad enough, mold damage also soon appears and causes further problems. Mold damage can be prevented, but it is difficult to do so. The key to preventing mold damage after a flood is removing the floodwater and drying out your home as soon as possible. Any remaining moisture in your home after a flood becomes a breeding

  2. ground for mold. If mold grows unchecked, it will cause structural damage and potential health issues for you and your family. Another problem with mold is that if it is allowed to grow into the walls and ceiling the only way to get rid of it for good may be to tear down the walls and ceiling. Damaged Wiring, Gas, Lines, And Appliances Even if a flood is very minor, you should always turn off your electrical and gas services. This will prevent the risk of electric shocks and explosions stemming from gas leaks. If wiring and/or gas lines are damaged in the flood, rewiring and installing new gas lines may be necessary to get your home back up and running. This can be an expensive process that leaves you without your utilities for an extended period of time. As for your appliances, just a couple inches of floodwater can be enough to damage them beyond repair. The cost to replace the water heater, furnace, air conditioner, washer, dryer, range, and other appliances could be prohibitive to your recovery efforts. If your home is flooded, give us a call at TRAC Solutions in Eau Claire right away so our restoration experts can come out to help. They will help you avoid, or at least take care of, these worst problems that stem from water damage.
