  2. Response • Josh and Sophie are working at their summer jobs in San Francisco when a mysterious man walks into Josh’s book shop. His name is Dr. John Dee. He is looking for a book called the Codex. He attacks the shop using magic and destroys the bookshop. Nicolas and Perenelle also use magic to fight back. Dee tries to take the Codex from Josh and succeeds but rips out two pages. But without the formula for immortality in the Codex the Flamels will rapidly age and die. Also if they do not get the Codex back Dee will bring back the Dark Elders and they will rule the world. Will they get the book in time? Read The Alchemist to find out.
