The 1st Face-to-Face (F2F) meeting of the SDK cluster working group on Semantic Web Services took place in Wiesbaden, Germany, on March 15, 2004. Led by Uwe Keller and his team, the meeting addressed motivations and objectives for achieving better service automation through the application of WSMO (Web Service Modeling Ontology). Key focus areas included service discovery, invocation, mediation, and orchestration, alongside formalizing proof obligations and implementing tools for reasoning and inference over semantic web services. The session concluded with a strategy for evaluating these approaches via case studies.

Agenda • Motivation • What do we want to achieve? • Activities • Current status • People Uwe Keller uwe.keller@deri.ie
Motivation • WSMO • Mission: development of a language for describing various aspects of semantic web services • Starting point: Web Service Modeling Framework (WSMF) • Semantic annotation + web service = semantic web service • How to make use of semantic annotations? • Full potential can only be reached by automated processing of semantic annotations • This naturally leads to reasoning and inferencing over web service descriptions in WSMO • What is needed? • Formal semantics description in of WSMO ►deliverable D8 “Language evaluation & comparison” Uwe Keller uwe.keller@deri.ie
What do we want to achieve? Use … all information present in WSMO service descriptions … to support the automation of • Service Discovery • Service Invocation • Service Mediation (Data, Protocol, Process) • Service Orchestration • Service Execution Uwe Keller uwe.keller@deri.ie
How do we do that? • Identify proof obligation in all these areas • What do we want to prove informally? • Formally define the statement in an adequat logic • Implementation of tools for proving the proof obligations formally • Evaluate the approaches during case studies Uwe Keller uwe.keller@deri.ie
Current status • Focus on service discovery aspect • Exact matching between goals & capabilities • Defined proof obligation • Started to implement a corresponding reasoner based on F-Logic • Just started: Matching in the context of mediators Uwe Keller uwe.keller@deri.ie
