The 19th-century belief in Manifest Destiny was pivotal in shaping America's growth westward. From the Appalachian Mountains to the Mississippi River, early settlers envisioned the frontier as a pathway to opportunity and prosperity. By the 1820s, much of this land was settled, leading to a fervent push toward the Pacific Ocean. This expansion was fueled by significant events such as the Louisiana Purchase and the acquisition of Florida from Spain. However, perceptions of Manifest Destiny vary, raising questions on its implications and ethical dimensions.
