  2. What are Cooling Towers? Cooling towers are heat removal devices that make use of water to transfer the processed heat into the atmosphere. The basic principle behind the operation of a cooling tower is the same for all. They work on the principle of removing excess heat from water in the atmosphere by performing the evaporation process in some portion of water and recirculating that in the entire unit.

  3. What is the purpose of building a Cooling Tower? The main aim of building a cooling tower is to cool water and it really works pretty well to eliminate the heat from the building into the atmosphere and get colder water in return. A cooling tower would be receiving hot water from the chiller. This water received from the chiller is known as condenser water because of the reason that it gets heated in the condenser present in the chiller.

  4. Types of Cooling Towers Natural Draft Cooling Tower Systems These systems are utilized in pretty large power plants and industries where there is infinite water flow for cooling. The operating of this natural draft cooling tower is based on the removal of waste heat by rising the hot air which is later on released into the atmosphere. Mechanical Draft Cooling Tower Systems In this cooling tower system, a fan is used for forcing the air through the structure for circulating the air through the entire tower. Centrifugal and propeller fans are the most common ones that are being used in these tower systems for driving the air in the entire tower.

  5. Types of Cooling Towers Crossflow Cooling Tower Systems This system has a design where the air flows horizontally through the entire tower's structure and get accumulated in an area. The hot water starts flowing in the downward region from the distribution basins. Counterflow Cooling Tower Systems IIn this system, the air moves in the upward direction, while the hot water is falling in the downward direction for cooling the airflow.
