PERFORMING ARTS (DANCE) • This BTEC Dance course will provide students with the opportunity to develop an understanding and appreciation of a range of dance styles. • This will be mainly contemporary/modern dance – not related to popular TV/video dance. • Through their performance pupils will develop life-skills and attributes, including decision making, critical and creative thinking, aesthetic sensitivity and the ability to co-operate with others.   3. How is the course assessed? Students will be assessed through written coursework and practical assessments:- • Unit 1 –Individual Showcase • Unit 2 – Preparation, Performance, Production. • Unit 4 – Dance Skills • Unit 8 – The Performing Arts Industry • In addition to this, 4 additional units relating to Dance Styles will be studied.   4. More Information It is essential that pupils opting for this subject attend lessons regularly and always bring appropriate kit, as this subject is practically based. Students must also feel confident in performing in front of their peers and external moderators, alone and as part of a group. A great deal of time will be spent learning about professional dance works. This may involve visiting theatres to watch professional performances. BTEC DANCE
