Meeting Summary • Data, Calibration and Tools are extremely well advanced • The European contribution has been outstanding • We are able to get on with the analyses • The combination of SECCHI observations with those from other data sets from STEREO, Hinode, Trace, SOHO, Ulysses, SWAP, etc is extremely exciting • Automatic processing/characterization techniques are useful for on-ground processing, but may enable on-board selection of important images to be downlinked during low telemetry periods • Synoptic Program • Needs additional work • Rethink the cadences • Possible low compression into SSR2 • Need high quality movies for PR • Possible extra daily TM dump, enabling lower compression

  6. Data Policy • The SECCHI data are completely open. • You have heard status from each of the instrument teams. But do not feel that you may only use data from a single telescope. We are a team – the Sun shines on all of us. • I would like to propose the following authorship policy to recognize the contributions of the instrument developers and operations people • General observation papers for the first TBD months would include a core group of people (TBD) who had worked on the development and/or operation • Papers that are more theoretical/analytical would have a more limited authorship from the core group and perhaps none • New major discoveries within the first TBD months would have an authorship that would be the core group • I propose that the instrument leads discuss this off-line.

  7. Press Releases • Press releases are encouraged – just send me a copy of your release and I’ll forward it to the NASA press officer, Rani Gran • We will be releasing a SECCHI picture of the week. It is similar to the Astronomy Picture of the Day • This NEEDS your help to succeed. Please be thinking of nice pictures that might have a general interest • JPL has established a web site to facilitate the input of such material – a picture, set of pictures, or a movie AND a short caption/writeup.

  11. Book Offer • Volker Bothmer has indicated that Springer Verlag has invited us to think about a book • Suggestions – • First Results from STEREO • ??

Senior Review • We fully expect the STEREO mission will be extended beyond the initial 2-year prime phase • The mechanism for doing this in the US is to submit a proposal to the NASA mission operations directorate. • NASA than calls a “Senior Review” to rank the various missions and to recommend funding levels • There has been some preliminary discussions that a senior review would be held next spring, requiring a proposal from the STEREO program this fall/winter. The dates are not fixed. • We can guarantee a successful review by having good scientific analyses, papers and outreach activities. I believe that the truly outstanding and unique data from STEREO will make it very easy to publish. • I would like to keep an electronic record of papers that are published by the team (and others) that will be maintained on our web site. • Please inform me of any other activities that you think might be relevant to our case.
