Study Summary • Mortality rates increased as sitting time increased • The increase in mortality was independent of age, smoking, and weight • Mortality increased with sitting time even among people who got regular exercise • For best health, everyone needs to get regular exercise AND limit sitting time.   4. Ideas to Reduce Sitting Time • Get up frequently at work and walk around. Walk about when talking on phone, thinking or planning, or discussing ideas with others. • Hand deliver a communication to a colleague. • Commute to work on a bus, bicycle, or simply walk to work. • Limit TV viewing and computer games – choose more active recreational pursuits.
