  2. Expression • Personal . Anxietys , fears , obsessions , desires and concepts . • Photographs used as an Artform . Eg * Surrealism . Post modernism. Communicating messages to the viewer. • * Salvador • Dali Paintings .

  3. Memory Because of the photograph and new recording technologyswe approach and think of memory differently • Archive With an image we can reflect in/and-with more detail on important moments from *History that would otherwise be lost to time and not as accurately represented or learnt from . *(Personal/Cultural memorys) • Creating a history We make our own history via past memorys of our cultural identity that are taught us via education books and the media • A time travel tool . The photograph brings past events to our present time . It is more reliable than the human mind to remember an accurate reality . • Nostalgia Wishing to return to the past: longing reminiscing for an idealised vision of a past which might never have really existed ( We yearn for this utopia ). We are never satisfied with the present .

  4. Communication. Manipulation . • Of concepts and theorys to better shape our culture/society Image is powerful . It sends a message very quickly. Images can lie.Photoshop.Digital image engineering. • Through signs ( semiotics ) Sending a Message that can change how you perceive . *As in Renee Magrittes pipe A photo is an accurate representation of reality People believe that what they see is real And act accordingly * Is this real polish ? No it is just a representation of polish.

  5. Education • Media . An image can quickly achieve a mass conscious objective by speaking a thousand different ideas in a minute , that a book or word of mouth could otherwise take years . • Learning from past events so you can make the most of the future by Reminding us of our mistakes . • Intellectual mass education and direction . Directing the consciousness of a nation to achieve a specific intention . By showing icons etc Malalayousefzai An icon of womens rights . An activist for female education . +evolution

  6. Conclusion Altruism for the survival of the species . At the very core of everything is our will to survive . +Death drives the machine . • Photography is a way of prolonging/eternalising the memory . To help us evolve quicker faster ( Survival ) . One of many societal survival methods . It makes powerful and specific emotional connections . It is similar to how we visual moments in our own minds . A way of avoiding complete death ( A solid physical memory is always there) . Roland barthes talks about the image as , he who is going to die . Death for him is at the centre of photographys allurement .
