  1. PLORE How to take the test and succeed!

  2. What does it mean? • P • PREDICT • 1st- Read and circle the title • 2nd- Read the first paragraph and write a prediction • 3rd- Author’s purpose • P.I.E.

  3. PLORE L = Locate Circle key words (BOLD, italic, underlined) Underline the sentence that it is in. Use the sentence before and after to determine and synonym or short definition

  4. PLORE • O=Organize • *Star* any pictures, keys, graphs, newspapers, or poems • Number paragraphs… P1, P2 • Preview the questions • Circle words like main idea, paragraph #, author, etc.

  5. PLORE Read Reread Remember Check your prediction- Were you right?

  6. PLORE E=evaulate Read the question Read ALL answers FIND the answer in the text and mark the question # next to where you found it. MARK the paragraph # next to the question so you know where you found it! YOU MUST PROVE THAT YOU FOUND THE RIGHT ANSWER, or you are just guessing! 

Using the first story, make sure that you follow all the steps of PLORE. Answer questions 1-6 on your paper NOT ON THE TEST.
