  1. Probability and Patterns of Inheritance—Lesson 4 Mrs. Anna Ward James Martin MS

  2. Do NOW!!! In Dogwood trees, white flowers (F) are dominant to pink flowers (f). In my yard, I have a pink Dogwood tree and a Three Hybrid (Ff) white Dogwood trees. If I were to cross my pink tree with one of my white trees…. • Draw the Punnett Square. • Tell me the Possible Genotypes. • Calculate the Ratio & Percentage of Each Genotype. • Tell me the Possible Phenotypes. • Calculate the Ratio & Percentage of Each Phenotype.

  3. Do Now Solution: F f 1. • The possible genotypes are: Ff and ff • The genotype ratio is 2:2 or 50% Ff, 50% ff • The possible phenotypes are: White or Pink. • The Phenotype ratio is 2:2 or 50% White, 50% Pink f f

  4. Announcements • I will collect Pre-Lab Sheets. • Notebook Check next Thursday. • Continue to work to earn Stamps.

  5. Agenda: • Quiz on Genetics • Gummy Bear Lab

  6. QUIZ: Punnett Squares In humans, brown eyes (B) are dominant to blue eyes (b). • What are the possible phenotypes for eye color as listed above? • What would the be genotype of: • a homozygous dominant human? • A homozygous recessive human? • A heterozygous human? • Which genotype(s) would code for brown eyes? • Which genotype(s) would code for blue eyes? • Draw a Punnett Square that crosses a homozygous dominant woman with a heterozygous man. • Calculate the Genotype Ratio. • Calculate the Phenotype Ratio. • Draw a Punnett Square that crosses a heterozygous female with a homozygous recessive male. • Calculate the Genotype Ratio. • Calculate the Phenotype Ratio.

  7. Pre-Lab Sheets • If you did not complete it for homework, you may start now. • Remain quiet and stay in your seat. • If you do not follow expectations you will complete the alternate activity. • Once you complete the sheet, you will be allowed to participate.

  8. Gummy Bear Lab: • Solution stations are posted on the Prep Room Door, TV, and on the end of the Cabinet by the Door. • Stay in your area. Only one person from your team may get up to check the solution station. PICK UP DROPPED GUMMY BEARS IMMEDIATELY. • You will be partnered based on the person sitting next to you. No complaints. Or else. • Once I check your lab sheet, you and your partner may eat the Gummy Bears if so desired.

  9. EXIT TICKET: • If actual and predicted results sometimes vary, why do you think we even bother to study probability?
