Who is ASHRAE? • ASHRAE is a professional organization consisting of approximately 55,000 individuals from more than 130 nations. • Students, consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, building owners, and employees of manufacturing companies, educational institutions, research organizations, government or any organization concerned with environmental control.

  3. Levels of Involvement • Student Chapter Involvement • Chapter Level Involvement • Regional Involvement (14 regions) • Society Involvement (25 committees) • Council Involvement • Technical & Standards Committee Involvement

  4. ASHRAE Membership • ASHRAE is open to any person associated with heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) or refrigeration • Systems design • Indoor air quality • Energy conservation • Etc.

Technical Committees (TC's), Task Groups (TG's), and Technical Resource Groups (TRG's) • Responsible for: • preparing the text of the ASHRAE Handbooks • originating, coordinating, and supervising Society-sponsored research projects • presenting programs at ASHRAE meetings • reviewing technical papers • evaluating the need for standards • advising the Society on all aspects of the technology it embraces

  12. Applying for Membership on a Technical Committee • ASHRAE welcomes new members to its technical committees. • Changes to committee membership occur only once a year. To be considered for technical committee membership you must do the following prior to November 1 for membership beginning the next July 1: • Notify the Manager, Research and Technical Services of your interest in a particular TC • Update or file a current Biographical Record Form
