  1. Selecting or Changing Electronic Health Record System in Santa CruzFebruary 2013

  2. Mission To improve the quality and efficiency of health care for all stakeholders in the Santa Cruz community. To deliver technology assistance, guidance and information on best practices to providers with the goal of creating a healthcare delivery system that offers a seamless, integrated experience for patients and providers.  Provide services and tools to participating healthcare providers to become meaningful users of EHRs connected to the Santa Cruz Health Information Exchange. Theseare foundational for Accountable Care, Clinical Integration, Medical Home Model and surviving payment reform as independent physicians

  3. Stage 1 vs. Stage 2 Announcements Summer of 2013 Users of Elysium e-Lite will no longer be supported. PMG is recommending Cal-Med or Lytec MD for providers currently using Elysium’s Meaningful Use EHR. Vendors announcing plans to discontinue support for Meaningful Use certification for Stage 2. Examples, Allscripts MyWay, GE, etc)

  4. 7 Steps for Successful EHR Launch There are startup and on-going costs from PMG and possibly from the EHR vendors to the practice and you should be aware BEFORE YOU MAKE A DECISION so you have the complete picture of your costs. You have the most leverage with the vendor if you work through these points BEFORE YOU COMMIT to using their software. The EHR selection process PMG recommends is: • Narrow down the list of candidate EHR vendors • Review your candidates and EHR contact info with Bill Beighe • Optional – a member of the PMG team will attend demos and go through the due-diligence process with you • Bill will review specifications with the candidates and provide you a report • Bill will provide you and your vendor a interface guide which is intended to be a contract amendment between you and your EHR vendor. • You MUST MAKE SURE your contract with your vendor includes a commitment to follow the interface specifications and deliver a fully tested interface BEFORE YOUR PRACTICE GOES LIVE. • Inform Bill when you have signed your EHR vendor contract and provide a copy of the interface deliverables – or the entire contract if you are comfortable with that. • Inform your vendor that PMG will be a  participant on your EHR planning and implementation sessions (usually held weekly and run by the EHR vendor)

  5. Some areas to consider when selecting an EMR • Costs / Financing • Workflow and User Experience • Features • Patient portal with bidirectional data exchange • Commitment to Meaningful Use • Interoperability with SCHIE • Mobile Support • Support – Hours

  6. *Components require additional scope and services review as the options vary by practice needs and application offerings. There may be additional costs for services and/or integration. (1) Provider must get this in their vendor contract in writing
