  3. Wales is a country, one of the four main administrative and political parts of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In the past it was a conglomerate of independent Celtic kingdoms. Wales is located in the south-west Britain, on the east at the border of the English counties of Cheshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. It is surrounded by the sea in the south by the Bristol Channel, in the south-west – by the St George Strait, in the north and west – by the Irish Sea, in the north-east – by the mouth of the River Dee.

  4. The Welsh language belongs to the family of Celtic languages ​​and is very closely related to Breton and Cornish. This is one of the oldest languages ​​in Europe, it dates back to the 6th BC. The Welsh language as an official language was prohibited in 1535. It became the national language only in 1965. Now there are some TV and radio programmes in Welsh. The Welsh are very proud of their national language. Welsh is a phonetic language. The Welsh sound every letter. There are 28 letters in the Welsh alphabet. There is no indefinite article in Welsh. All nouns are masculine and feminine. Plurals of nouns are formed by adding an ending. Mostly used ending is “au”, e.g. cae (field) – caeau (fields). It is better to learn plurals for every word. All numbers in Welsh are followed by singular nouns. The Welsh often use letters “ll”, “f”, “ff”, “w”. -   There is a railway station in Anglesey, which has 58 letters in its name: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. The name means: “The church of St. Mary in a wood of hazel trees near a rapid whirlpool and near St. Tysilio’s cave not far from a red cave”.

In 1955 the city was declared as the capital of Wales.       Cardiff is located in the South Wales and borders lands of Newport, Caerphilly in the east, areas Ronta koinonia Tav on the north and the Valley of Glamorgan in the south.

Swansea has become a leading art centre and holds an acclaimed Festival of Music every autumn.

It appeared in the 19th century under the influence of various causes, among them the desire to support Welsh culture at the time when traditional values ​​were under threat.       The costume, which is considered national is based on rural women's attire of the 19th century: a striped flannel petticoat, which was worn with a decollete jacket, an apron, a shawl and a kerchief or a cap. The jackets are varied - there are spacious jackets, with a bodice and a long skirt, and short, very similar to a riding-coat.

The castle is known for its extensive, very attractive formal gardens, terraces, parkland, a deer park and an impressive estate. Queen Victoria visited the castle during her tour across England and Wales in 1832.

  16. Caernarfon Castle is a medieval bulding in Gwynedd in North-West Wales. There was a motte-and-bailey castle in the town of Caernarfon from the late 11 th century until 1283 when the king Edward I of England began replacing it with the current stone structure.
