  3. God’s Name Represents • His presence (I Kings 8:29) • His character (Exodus 6:3) • His power (Exodus 9:16) • His authority (Exodus 23:20-22 & Mark 16:17)

  4. The Importance of God’s Name • A name to be fear (reverence, respected): Deut. 28:58-59 & Ex. 20:7 • A name to remember: Ps. 44:20-21 & Jer 23:25-27 • A name of blessings: Ps. 91:14-16 & Mal. 3:16

  5. God’s Compounded names • Jehovah-jireh: The Lord will see (to it, or will provide) • Jehovah-rapha: The Lord that heals • Jehovah-nissi: The Lord our banner • Jehovah-m’kaddesh: The Lord that sancifies

  8. The Progression of God’s Name • Elohim (God) Genesis 1:1 • YHWH (Lord) Genesis 2:4 • YHWH or Yahweh (God) Genesis 15:2 • Eheyeh (I Am) Exodus 3:14 • YHWH (Jehovah) Exodus 6:3

  9. ELOHIM • El- strength, mighty, almighty • Eloah refers to diety • Elohim is the pural form of Eloah • Elohim denotes the greatness, majesty, and the multiple attributes of God.

  10. YAHWEH • Yahweh or Jehovah is the redemptive name of God. • A name distinguishing Himself from any others gods. • It means-Self-Existing One, The Eternal One, or God is! • Yahweh is the third person of the verb “to be”

  11. I AM • Yahweh used by others referring to God. • I Am is used in the First Person. • When God is referring to Himself. • These words are different forms of the same verb.

  12. Elliptical clause • Matt. 28:19 is an elliptical cause. • The name is singular followed by the elliptical cause indicating one name is the name of Father, Son and Holy Ghost. • There is no other name (Acts 4:12)

  13. The Name Jesus • God’s progression ended with this name. • Everything is to be done in the name of Jesus (Col. 3:17). • Jesus is the God’s family name (Eph. 3:14-15). • Jesus is the name of the Father (Jn 17:6,26). • Jesus is the name of the Holy Ghost (Jn 14:26).

The Meaning of the Name Jesus • Strong’s Concordance NT:2389 • Iesous (ee-ay-sooce'); of Hebrew origin [OT:3091]; Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites: • Strong’s Concordance OT:3091 • Yehowshuwa` (yeh-ho-shoo'-ah); or Yehowshu` a (yeh-ho-shoo'-ah); from OT:3068 and OT:3467; Jehovah-saved; Jehoshua (i.e. Joshua), the Jewish leader: -Jehoshua, Jehoshuah, Joshua. Compare OT:1954, OT:3442.
