  2. The Business Innovation and Investment program is designed to attract individuals with high level business and investment experience to Australia. The program involves the issuance of a temporary visa under subclass 188 with a pathway to permanent residency through subclass 888. There are four streams available through the program, under which applicants must be nominated by a State or Territory government.

  3. Business Innovation and Investment Visa The five streams under the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) are: • Business Innovation Stream: For individuals who have business ownership experience overseas and wish to own and manage a business in Australia. • Investor Stream: For individuals with overseas investment experience and are willing to make a designated investment of at least $2.5 million • Significant Investor Stream: For individuals with overseas investment experience and are willing to make a designated investment of at least $5 million AUD. • Entrepreneur Stream: For individuals that wish to commercialise a product or service in Australia or develop an enterprise or business in Australia.

  4. In addition to the above, each State/Territory has separate nomination requirements. Applicants must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect and be invited to apply. Applicants can include their direct family members in the application. The visas are granted for a period of five years and are subject to meeting certain revenue and other requirements for business innovation visa holders or maintaining investments for a period of time for investor visa holders, provisional visa holders may apply for permanent residency under the Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass 888)

The five business visa streams are: • Business Innovation stream: Applicants must plan to establish, develop and manage a new or existing business in Australia. Applicants must be nominated by a state or territory government. • Investor stream: Applicants must make a designated investment of at least $1.5 million AUD. Applicants must be nominated by a state or territory government.

  7. Significant Investor stream: Applicants must make an investment of at least $5 million AUD. Applicants can be nominated by a state or territory government or Austrade on behalf of the Australian government. • Premium Investor stream: Applicants must invest a minimum of $15 million AUD. • Entrepreneur stream: Applicants must have a funding agreement from a third party for at least $200,000 AUD. Applicants must be nominated by a state or territory government.

  8. Bring Your Family Applicants can include or add the following family members to their 188 Visa: • Married or de facto partner • Dependent children/step-children AGE - Children 23 years and over cannot be included in your application. (Unless there are exceptional circumstances) HEALTH & CHARACTER - All family members must meet health and character requirements. All applicants over 16 must provide police clearances.
