Anglo-Saxon • They were dominated by close allegiance between leaders/followers • Old Anglo-Saxon religion encouraged ethics like bravery • Their poets held honored position because they preserved heroic deeds in memory • Monasteries learned and preserved literary works • They and the Danes ended with invasion by Normans

  4. Beowulf • Beowulf slays Grendel to prevent him from invading the Geats • Beowulf dies by fighting the dragon with Wiglaf

  5. Troy • Paris, Achilles, Hector, Helen • Paris fell in love with Helen who was already married to the king of Sparta • So the Spartan king Menelaus joins forces with his brother Agamemnon who go to war against Troy
