How can I host my website ? • Select a type of web hosting • Free hosting, Paid hosting or Self hosting • Choose a web hosting provider • Self hosting  I am my own provider • Register for an account at provider website • At UCD, your account is generated and hosted Ouray server when you enroll • www.brinkster.com, www.godaddy.com • Upload your website to server

How can I host my website ? • An example: hosting your website at UCD • Free Web hosting • Provider : UCD • Your account is available when you enroll • Host: ouray.cudenver.edu • Username: your username used to log in to University’s email box • Password: your password used to log in to University’s email box • Uploading your website • Can use WinSCP • Port number: 22 ( default) • File protocol: SFTP ( default) • See lecture 1 for detail instructions

Domain Name • Domain Levels • Ex: en.wikipedia.org • Top-level domain: gov, edu, com, org, net, info, us • Second-level domain : created based on the name of a company, organization, product, people … • wikipedia, ucdenver , google, yahoo • Third-level domain: used to designate a particular host server, a department, function, or service… • Also called Subdomain Second-level Top-level Third-level
