  7. Departureson July 17 Troops 4229, 4230 and Crew 5256 Southwest 1954 5:40 a.m. (Nonstop to Baltimore at 9:50 a.m.) • Should be at Austin-Bergstrom Int’l Airport by 4:10 a.m. • Troop 4229 travels in its own bus (Sullivan leader) • Troop 4230 & Crew 5256 travel together in 56-passenger bus (Beck is Leader)

  8. Departureson July 17 • Troops 4231 and 4232 • Frontier 1922 7:25 a.m. (Nonstop to Dullesat 11:41 a.m.) • Should be at Austin-Bergstrom Int’l Airport by 5:55 a.m. • Troops 4231 and 4232 travel together in a 60-passenger bus (Parker is Leader)

  9. Returningon July 28 Troop 4229 Delta 2490 (Depart BWI 7:05 p.m.) Arrive Atlanta 9:08 p.m. Delta 1837 (Depart ATL 10:20 p.m.)  Arrive Austin 11:43 p.m. • Troop 4229 Travels in its own bus (Sullivan is Leader)

  10. Returningon July 28 • Troops 4230, 4231, 4232 & Crew 5256 • Southwest 2220 (Depart BWI 8:25 p.m.) Arrive Austin 10:45 p.m. • Troop 4230 and Crew 5256 travel together in a 56-passenger bus (Beck is Leader) • Troops 4231 and 4232 travel together in a 60-passenger bus (Parker is Leader)

Flight Requirements • Departing from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on July 17: Be under escalator by Baggage Claim Carousel One 90 minutes before scheduled departure time. • Be prepared for security rules of Transportation Safety Administration: no knives, travel-sized liquid containers only (water bottles should be empty), etc. • Weight of duffel must be 50 pounds or less. (For non-SWA, bag fee covered by unit leader. • Jambo leaders will have tickets.

  12. Other Flight Requirements • Carry small Jamboree carry-on bag and daypack. • Must have DPS I.D. • Must wear Field (Class A) uniform. (No exceptions.)

  13. Flight: Carry-on bag See the packing list for participants • Clothing for a day in D.C. (uniform+) & also for first day (set up) at Jamboree • Personal toiletries • Any medications • Clothes for sleeping • Non-uniform (but Scouting or plain) t-shirt for evening wear.)

While in D.C. • Busses take contingent around Washington. • Hotel – arranged by Jamboree committee. • (Up to 4 youth per room, assigned by leaders.) • Travel agency will provide hall safety monitors • All meals provided. (No out-of-pocket.) • Safety plan: • All youth will have buddies • Adults will have all cell numbers. • Youth must have charged phones.

Touring D.C., July 17 • Arrive in Washington mid-day. • After lunch: • Arlington Nat’l Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknown, Kennedy Gravesite, Iwo Jima Marine Memorial, Washington Monument, National Archives, Boy Scout Memorial • Dinner at Union Station. • FDR Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, MLK Monument.

  17. Touring D.C., July 18 • Capitol Hill Grounds, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, • Lunch at Union Station. • White House (photo stop), Smithsonian Museums: American History, Natural History, Air & Space Museum, Korean and Vietnam Memorials

  18. Leaving D.C., July 19 • Depart hotel after early breakfast. Load buses. • Ride to West Virginia. • Arrive at Summit Bechtel Reserve around Noon.

  19. Equipment

  20. In Your Duffel Bag See the packing list for participants. • Personal gear for summer long-term camping • Toiletries, flashlight, sunscreen, day pack, etc. • Limited pocket money. Of course, water bottles! • Full field (Class A) uniform (esp. for travel). • Clothing for warm weather, rain, water sports, around camp.

  22. Dining & Unit Equipment • Plate and utensils to be provided at Jamboree. (Bring a cup) • Tents, cots, shelters, cooking and cleaning equipment provided by Jamboree – will be onsite when we arrive. • Labeleverything!

In Your Daypack • During Jamboree, use a personal daypack, such as a book bag. • Carry items needed during the day when away from campsite: Water, rain gear, phone & charger, cash, flashlight, minor first air supplies, other personal items. • Will carry lunch issued in morning. • Girls can keep purse here. • Label the bag.

  24. Personal Electronics Policy • Participants may bring personal electronic devices (PEDs) with charging accessories but will be solely responsible for them. There are too many of us to be able to stop to look for lost devices, for example. • PED use must be appropriate (in line with Scout Oath and Law) and respectful of privacy. Use must not be a distraction. No gaming during free time. • PEDs will be confiscated if a problem. Unit leaders have the final word about confiscations.

  25. Personal Electronics Policy • All cell phone numbers will be stored in unit leader phone contact lists in case youth contact is needed. • Special apps used for drawing food for unit meals. • Participants must be prepared (zip-lock bags or cases) to protect PEDs from wet weather. • There are limited charging stations so participants must plan to conserve battery power and charge when possible. (Consider a solar charging device.) • Radios may be used for listening to Jamboree radio station QBSA if not a distraction.

Personal Electronics Policy • Before the Jamboree, participants should download a jamboree app (available now), which works on both iPhones and androids. • During the Jamboree all information – including emergency alerts – is transmitted to those with smart phones using that app. • No information will be printed and none sent to those without smart phones.

  28. Medical Requirements • Late registrants should load medical form and answer questions on Jamboree site ASAP at www.bsajamboree.org. BSA Member Care – 972-580-2489 – can help with site access. • Give a copy of BSA Medical & Health Record form (all 3 sections) with medical professional’s signatureto unit leader. • Be physically prepared to hike 8+ miles daily.

  29. Jamboree Memorabilia • Can order BSA Jamboree memorabilia now – scoutstuff.org – and avoid trading post lines. (Get Jambo registration number from e-mail confirmations for sign-in.) • Some contingent patches in council Scout Shop.

  30. Whitewater Rafting • Whitewater rafting: None allowed without a release signed by parents! No exceptions. • Take multiple copies, just in case. • Rafting will take most of a day – day assigned on arrival.

  31. World Strides Medical Release& Behavioral Contract • Must sign form (see handout) with summary of medical condition for each Scout. • Must sign reverse side on which Scout agrees to a standard of good behavior.

  32. Required Online Training for ATVs • To ride on the ATV course, must bring printed proof of completion of ATV certification course (for teens). https://cbt.svia.org/login/index.php.

Jamboree app • All communications will be shared through Jamboree app: events, activities, schedules, weather warnings, and maps. • Site has a good tower network. • Available through the App Store or a link on the Jamboree site. (99¢) Download it now, not onsite. • Available for both iPhones and Androids.

  34. I.D. from DPS • Must have an identification card issued by the Texas Dept. of Public Safety. (no passports, please) • https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/DriverLicense/applyforID.htm • $16 fee, present identity documents; takes about 10 days.

  35. Jamboree approval • Even for late registrants, trying to have all youth approved by BSA and council before departure to reduce check-in delays upon arrival at Jamboree. • Any registration issues should be resolved now!(For help with online form issues, call BSA Member Care at 972-580-2489.)

Bags & Patch Pick Up • Will be given: • 1 Jamboree duffel bag • 1 Jamboree carry-on bag • 1 complete set of Jambo patches (including center patches) • Contingent neckerchief & slide • 4 council jamboree council shoulder patches • 2 Jamboree unit numeral patches • Contingent t-shirt and hat • Plus, personal orders • Will be distributed at a date and place announced soon.

  38. Uniforms for Travel, Shows • Must wear full uniforms when traveling and at Jamboree Stadium Shows.

  39. Family Visits • There is a special visitors area and families are welcome. Some activity areas are not open to visitors. (Most base camps are off limits.) • Additional fees for visitors: can pay at www.bsajamboree.org • Visitors welcome July 21, 24-27: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; July 23: 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and July 22: 9:00 a.m. to end of Stadium Show.

  42. Special Events • Stadium Shows • Major arena events with entertainment, some nationally known bands. • Day of Service • For one day, unit goes off site for day of service to help local community in need. • Worship Services

  43. Patch Trading • If interested, take patches to trade. • Specialize in one type. • Don’t spend too much time and miss the activities.

  44. Spending Money • No money needed for meals but there will be opportunities for souvenirs and snacks. • Can take debit/credit cards, money orders or cash. $100 should be sufficient.

  45. Weather conditions Whew! July in southern West Virginia Highs: Upper 80s Lows: 60s Rain: 5-6 inches (rainiest month) Humidity: 60-70% Wind: light Hot, humid. It will rain.
