  3. The Social Sciences The Social sciences are the sciences that relate to human society and social behavior. • Geography • History • Archaeology • Economics • Political science • Anthropology • Sociology • psychology Main Menu

  4. Geography • Geography is the study of people, their environments, and their resources. • People who study geography are called geographers • They collect data and place it on maps. Return to Question 6 Main Menu

  12. Primary sources • Primary sources are first hand information about people or events. • Examples of primary sources are letters, autobiographies, speeches, an oral retelling of an event by a eyewitness, photograph or video of an event. Main Menu Return to Question 5

Largest Desert in the U.S. The largest desert in the U.S. is the Great Basin Desert Facts: • 190,000 square miles and is bordered by the Sierra Nevada Range on the west and the Rocky Mountains on the east • This is a cool or "cold desert" due to its more northern latitude, as well as higher elevations (at least 3,000 feet, but more commonly from 4,000 to 6,500 feet). Precipitation, generally 7-12 inches annually, is more evenly distributed throughout the year than in the other three North American deserts. Winter precipitation often falls as snow.
