  4. The Wright Family • Everyone take a penny and stand in a circle. • Listen carefully for two things • What is going on in the story • And for the words right and left • If you hear the word right, pass your penny to the right, if you hear the word left, pass your penny to the left.

  5. Barriers to an effective working relationship • Lack of communication • Not understanding • Last minute deadlines • Limited access/lack of information • Power struggle

Roles we play • Counselors • Caregiver and sometimes parent • Advocate • Cheerleader • First line of defense for teachers • Coach and drill sergeant • Mediators and instigators • Special Education teachers • Advocate • IEP coordinators • TEACHERS! • Mediators for parents and regular education teachers

  7. What's working • Communication- when teachers need something on the counseling end it gets done…eventually. • Teachers help counselors find the needed information

  8. Needs vs. wants • Access to IEPs and behavioral plans • Opportunity to participate in IEP meetings • Updated mods • To know who the teacher of record is. “It’s a battle!” • Unnecessary steps- process needs to flow better • Need information sooner

  9. What we can achieve • A more streamlined method of getting paperwork done. • Student growth! • A happy faculty and staff. • Clear up misunderstandings.
